Wildlife volunteering (30 Days Wild on the NCN, Scotland)

Opportunity image

‘30 Days Wild’ is the Wildlife Trusts' challenge to do something ‘wild’ every day of June. National Cycle Network paths are the ideal place to take this challenge.

Using ideas from Sustrans and the Scottish Wildlife Trust, you will spend time in June on your local National Cycle Network routes, doing something wild every day.

You will tell us what wild things you have been doing through Assemble, and share your photos on social media and with us on our online ‘30 Days Wild on the NCN’ platform.

You will have the chance to meet others doing ‘30 Days Wild on the NCN’ online and to connect in person if you are in the same area.

You can choose wild tasks according to your own interest, such as:

  • recording wildlife using the Sustrans iRecord website or app
  • picking up litter from the area
  • connecting with friends, family & other volunteers for a nature walk/cycle
  • learning new species and bird calls
  • building small natural shelters for insects
  • taking and sharing photographs of your local route or wildlife

You do not need to be a wildlife or biodiversity expert to take part in these activities.

You can do some or all of your 30 wild things on the National Cycle Network.

Does this sound like you?

You…

  • enjoy being active and doing practical tasks outdoors
  • are interested in green, wild spaces and wildlife
  • live near a National Cycle Network path
  • can carry out tasks independently
  • share our values and mission to get more people cycling, walking and wheeling in your community

Time commitment

The month of June. One wild thing a day – not all need to be on the National Cycle Network.
