Accessible paths volunteering - Signage review (Ely, Cambridge)
We have found that certain routes in your area need to be removed from the National Cycle Network, or we need to change their classification, because they fall short of our accessibility standard. This means that we are changing some signs on these routes.
You can play an active part in making sure that your local paths have the right signs and markings. This will help people to continue find their way around easily.
You will choose an available route in your area. Here, with support from your local team, you can help with:
- finding locations where signs need to be changed
- recording information about the signs in an app
- ordering materials (like stickers) to change the signs, when needed
- changing the signs, when safe and practicable (can be done in pairs).
We will provide support and all needed training during your volunteering. When you start, you will take part in online training to learn what information you need to collect and how.
You will often be volunteering in pairs. You are welcome to join with a friend or family member, if you wish to volunteer together.
Does this sound like you?
You…
- enjoy being active and doing practical tasks outdoors
- like paying attention to the details
- can easily reach the part of the National Cycle Network that you would like to help on by walking, cycling, wheeling or public transport
- can carry out tasks independently
- share our values and mission to get more people cycling, walking and wheeling in your community.
Then let us know your interest in helping update signs on former National Cycle Network paths near you.
Time commitment
We are flexible on how much time you can help each week or month. Let us know what suits you. Usually, people spend a few hours a month. We are aiming to complete this work by March 2024.
