Active community volunteering - Bike maintenance (Bike Mechanic (Schools))
You can help make more active travel happen in your local school community. By repairing bicycles and providing helpful tips, you will support pupils and staff to use their bicycles when travelling to and from school, and even beyond! You will help within different schools in your local area, with occasional travel if you so wish.
**Doing bike maintenance activities, you will: **
- Help do repairs of bicycles (tools provided or you can bring your own)
- provide tips on bike care, when needed
- Support and encourage people to make sustainable travel choices
- Stay in touch with the local Sustrans team in your area, and with other local partner organizations
- Complete some paperwork, when needed (e.g., records of repairs you have done).
- You will get continued support and training from Sustrans and opportunities to learn more, if interested. There may be an opportunity to have additional training according to your experience.
**So... Does this sound like you? **

**Time commitment **
We are flexible on how much time you can help each week or month. Let us know what suits you.
Usually, people help for around 4 hours per month, but this varies. The sessions take place during the week and during the school day (between 9am and 3pm), and potentially there may be the opportunity to help out at weekends as part of an organized event.

Safeguarding
For these volunteering activities, we will usually not do a disclosure check before you start. You will initially have a few taster volunteering days before we will implement a full DBS check, as you will be working in educational settings with children. However, this might change if you will be engaged with children or adults at risk. You can read our Safeguarding statement here. This sets out our commitment to keep people safe from harm.
