Active community volunteering - Cycle care (Hartlepool)
You can be an important part of making more active travel happen in your community. By looking after cycles and providing helpful tips, you will enable people to use their cycles on everyday journeys.
Doing cycle care activities, you will help within different parts of your local community, including in educational and workplace settings.
You can help with:
- carrying out and supporting people to complete cycle checks (training provided)
- providing tips on how to care for a cycle, when needed
- supporting and encouraging people to make sustainable travel choices
- staying in touch with your local Sustrans team and any other local partner organisations.
You will get continued support and training from Sustrans to do these activities. There will also be opportunities for further learning and development, if interested.
Does this sound like you?
You…
- would enjoy engaging and helping people with their cycles
- like doing tasks that involve paying attention to the smaller details
- might already have some experience with looking after cycles
- can carry out tasks independently
- are happy to support people staying active by sharing your knowledge about how to look after a cycle
- can complete some basic paperwork, if needed
- share our values and mission to get more people cycling, walking and wheeling in your local area.
Then let us know your interest in helping look after the cycles of people in your community.
Time commitment
We are flexible on how much time you can help each week or month. Let us know what suits you.
The activities and sessions you can join usually take place during the week (day or evening), and sometimes in weekends as part of an organised event.
Volunteering for everyone with Sustrans
We are committed to representing the diverse communities we work with, and we welcome people from all backgrounds to volunteer with us. We commit to equity and an inclusive culture, so volunteering is for everyone.
We believe that a diverse and inclusive organisation brings with it a diversity of ideas and ways of working, which strengthens everything we do.
Please have a look at the website above and our Volunteering agreement before you join. Then you know what we all expect from each other when volunteering.
Your accessibility
Please let us know in the application form, if you need any support or adjustments to make our first chat together and volunteering a positive experience for you.
