Active community volunteering - Ride leader (Stockton)

Opportunity image

Leading group cycle rides in your community is a great way to get more people active. We would like more people to enjoy the freedom that cycling can bring. There are also the added health and wellbeing benefits of being active on everyday journeys.

Doing these activities, you will:

  • help organise cycle rides in Stockton-on-Tees as part of the Stockton Active Travel Hub.
  • lead the group cycle ride (controlling direction and speed of the ride from front)
  • sometimes, be in the back of the group to make no one is left behind.

You will get training and support to get started on leading your local cycle rides.

We make sure that any rides in Stockton-on-Tees are organised to suit the ability of the group joining. We do not run rides in extremely remote locations or on challenging trails.

Do you still need to get some experience in leading cycle rides, and therefore cannot do this activity yet? Consider joining one of the existing group rides from The Hub. Here you can provide support in other ways before leading a group cycle ride yourself.

Does this sound like you?

You…

  • enjoy cycling and being active outdoors
  • have previous experience of supporting led cycle rides
  • can cycle or are willing to learn how to cycle at Level 2 of the National Standards for Cycling or equivalent
  • can carry out tasks independently and with a diverse group of people
  • are happy to support and motivate people to become confident in cycling
  • enjoy organising and planning
  • share our values and mission to get more people cycling, walking and wheeling in Stockton-on-Tees

Then let us know your interest in joining and helping to lead community group cycle rides in your area.

Time commitment

We are flexible on how much time you can help each week or month. Let us know what suits you. You are expected to lead at least 3 group cycle rides a year. This is to maintain your ride leader skills.
