I Bike schools volunteering (Perth & Kinross)
You can support your local ‘I Bike’ team with outdoor activities (walking, scootering and cycling) for children and young people at a school in your area.
The activities you can help with could include:
- teaching children and young people how to cycle or scoot
- doing school playground cycle skills activities
- leading cycle rides or walks in your area near the school
- showing how to look after and repair a cycle
- helping with the maintenance of our bikes that we lend out (training provided).
And much more! Volunteering is flexible, although schools activities take place during the day. If you would like to volunteer on evenings and/or weekends, you can volunteer with our I Bike Communities team, who work with parents, carers and other adults.
Let us know in your application if there are certain activities or tasks that you would like to do. This includes if you only want to help repair and maintain our bicycles.
You can also be part of the ‘Access to Bikes’ team that help provide bicycles to learn on.
During your time volunteering we can provide support and training with recognised qualifications such as Cycle Ride Leader, Bikeability Instructor, Cycle Trainer, First Aid, and Velotech (cycle mechanics). You will learn how to engage children and young people with the activities and ensure that they are delivered safely.
Does this sound like you?
You…
- enjoy being active outdoors
- have an enthusiastic mindset about doing activities in schools
- are interested in learning new skills to engage in cycling, wheeling and / or walking activities
- would enjoy engaging a diverse group of children and young people
- share our values and mission to get more people cycling, walking and wheeling in your community.
Then let us know your interest in helping with our I Bike school activities in your area.
Time commitment
Volunteering activities are within school hours between 9am and 3pm during school term times. There are no activities during school holidays.
We are flexible on how much time you can help each week or month. We can help you find times to fit in with your commitments. Let us know what suits you. We can also start with a taster session and see how you like it.

Your accessibility
Please let us know in the application form, if you need any support or adjustments to make our first chat together and volunteering a positive experience for you.
Any expenses for helping with these activities, which have been agreed, will be paid back to you. This can include for tools and public transport on the day of volunteering.
If you don’t have an email address, or for any other reason aren’t able to fill in our online form, not to worry. Reach out to your local Volunteer Coordinator (find here), and they can fill in the details for you.
**We will ask you for the contact details of a person, who you have known for more than 6 months (1 reference). ** Please have these ready when filling in the application form. If you need support identifying a reference, please let us know.
Safeguarding
We will do a PVG (enhanced disclosure) check for these activities, as you are volunteering with children and youth under 18. We will do this check on your behalf, so you only need to provide a few details. We won’t do this until after we have had our first chat together about the activities. You will be able to attend some supervised activities until the check comes through.
We won’t do a disclosure check, if you only want to do bike care and repair activities without involvement of children or young people. However, this will change if you later decide to join school activities.
You can read our Safeguarding statement here. This sets out our commitment to keep people safe from harm.
