I Bike schools volunteering (East Lothian)

Opportunity image

You can support your local ‘I Bike’ team with outdoor activities for children and young people at a school in your area. You can also help look after and fix the bikes we lend out. This makes it possible for children and young people who don’t have access to a bike to learn as well.

The activities you can help with include:

  • teaching children and young people how to cycle or scoot
  • doing school playground cycle skills activities
  • assisting with cycle rides or walks in your area near the school
  • showing students how to look after their cycle
  • help with the maintenance of our bikes that we lend out (training provided).

And much more! Volunteering with your local I Bike team takes place during the school day and is very flexible. Just let us know if there are certain activities or tasks that you would like to do. We can also start with a taster session and see how you like it.

We will provide training and support during your time volunteering. You will learn how to engage children and young people with the activities, and make sure that they are delivered safely.

Does this sound like you?

You…

  • enjoy being active outdoors
  • have an enthusiastic mindset about doing activities in schools
  • are interested in learning new skills to engage in cycling, wheeling and / or walking activities
  • would enjoy engaging a diverse group of children and young people
  • share our values and mission to get more people cycling, walking and wheeling in your community.

Then let us know your interest in helping with our I Bike school activities in your area.

Time commitment

Volunteering activities are during school hours between 9am and 3pm during school term time. No activities during school holidays.

We are flexible on how much time you can help each week or month. At least once a month is ideal, but we can help you find time to fit in with your commitments. Let us know what suits you.

Safeguarding

We will do a PVG (enhanced disclosure) check for these activities, as you are volunteering with children and young people under 18. You will be able to attend some supervised activities before this comes through. We will do this check on your behalf, so you only need to provide a few details. We won’t do this check until after we have had our first chat together about the activities.

You can read our Safeguarding statement here. This sets out our commitment to keep people safe from harm.
