Paths for everyone volunteering (across Scotland)
Have you noticed that your local National Cycle Network path could use a little help?
By doing small Paths for everyone volunteering tasks, you can help keep your local Network looking great and be as accessible as possible.
You can do any of the activities and tasks below, according to need and your own interests:
- snipping back plants that are overhanging the paths
- picking up litter or sweeping back broken glass to keep the path clean and accessible
- making sure the Network route signs can be read, by cleaning or clearing obscuring vegetation
- removing graffiti
- reporting signage problems to scotsigns@sustrans.org.uk
- letting the relevant local responsible authority know if there are any major issues, faults or things that need repairing.
You can do these tasks on your own, with your family or a few other volunteers, as you like. Equipment for the activities above will be provided, if needed.
Does this sound like you?
You…
- have identified a path that you would like to volunteer on that needs some attention
- enjoy being active outdoors and doing practical tasks
- can access the path by walking, cycling, wheeling or public transport
- can carry out tasks independently
- share our values and mission to get more people cycling, walking and wheeling.
Time commitment
An initial hour or two for a chat, welcome session and to get set up on our online platform. After that, we are flexible on how much time you help each week or month. Ideally we would like to know that you will address any problems that you come across as you use your local routes.
Volunteering for everyone with Sustrans
We are committed to representing the diverse communities we work with, and we welcome people from all backgrounds to volunteer with us. We commit to equity and an inclusive culture, so volunteering is for everyone.
We believe that a diverse and inclusive organisation brings with it a diversity of ideas and ways of working, which strengthens everything we do.
Please have a look at the website above and our Volunteering agreement before you join. Then you know what we all expect from each other when volunteering.
Your accessibility
Please let us know in the application form, if you need any support or adjustments to make our first chat together and volunteering a positive experience for you.
Any expenses for helping with these activities, which have been agreed, will be paid back to you. This can include for tools and public transport on the day of volunteering.
If you don’t have an email address, or for any other reason aren’t able to fill in our online form, not to worry. Reach out to your local Volunteer Coordinator (find here), and they can fill in the details for you.
